The MATAN Program at Park Avenue Synagogue

On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Park Avenue Synagogue is home to two classes for children with mild to moderate learning differences, including difficulties related to auditory processing, attention, dyslexia, short-term memory, speech and language delays, and other types of learning issues. MATAN Rishon meets on Tuesday afternoons and serves children between the ages of 7 and 9. MATAN Sheni meets on Thursday afternoons and includes ages 10 through Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Keshet: The MATAN Program at Town & Village Synagogue

Town and Village Synagogue holds a class for 10 to 12 year old children with learning differences. Unique to this program is a visiting Rabbi and Cantor component to help the children feel more connected to the synagogue, and one hour per week of integration with the rest of the students in the school for special hands-on activities (drama, cooking, etc.). The Keshet class is held on Sunday mornings in Downtown Manhattan.

MATAN's Project SNOW

MATAN's Project SNOW (Special Needs of Westchester) currently runs 5 classes for children at various locations throughout both lower and upper Westchester (First Hebrew Congregation in Peekskill, Congregation KTI in Portchester, Congregation Emanu-El in Rye, and JCC of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale) for children with learning differences, ADHD, and autistic spectrum developmental disorders. This project has been made possible by a grant from the UJA-Federation of New York and the Rita and Stanley Kaplan Endowment Fund. Special thanks to the JCC of MidWestchester for providing our office space. For more information, please call Stacy Berrin or Deena Spindler at 914-472-3300, x345. Beginning in Fall, 2005, MATAN will be collaborating with the JCC of Mid-Westchester to offer additional classes for grade school children, and new MATAN KATAN classes for the preschool and kindergarten age group.
